Episode 16

On John Piper

Published on: 19th July, 2021

Heard of John Piper? This week we discuss the teaching which has perhaps affected the recent generation of pastors more than any other. We begin with a catalytic moment in Dr. Piper's ministry. At Passion One Day on May 20, 200, before 40,000 college students in Memphis, Tennessee, he preached what has come to be known as the "Shells Sermon". From there we discuss the defining doctrines of his preaching and their affects on our ministries.

I grew up in the Piney Woods of East Texas as a pastor's son. Being on the inside, I saw the worst of the church. But the Lord has brought me to see the glory of the gospel and the worth of the church. My wife and I have four wonderful children and an average dog. I love good BBQ and there is a lot of it in Austin, Tx.

The joys in 1 Thessalonians 2:13 are what make me want to wake up and preach another day.
